Neu Alauda

Don’t let her get into her zone - this London oddball pop newcomer is getting stranger by the second.

There’s a nagging sense when listening to Alauda’s self-produced early tracks that she doesn’t care who’s peering in. Penning any praise is the equivalent of tapping on her window while she’s mid-zoning out. Using empty space and worldly samples to her benefit, if it weren’t for suitable cutting off points, these songs could meander off into the distance via their own comfortable, pillowed bubble.

Starting out in October 2013 with the Lykke Li-channelling ‘Falling Star’, what initially started out as concise albeit exploratory pop has since exposed a different side. ‘Cyan Water’ bubbled up and dived deep into playful, spirited production, while new song ‘Honey Priest’ gives the otherworldly a firm platform. Chances are she doesn’t even come from this very planet. If this does actually represent some kind of alien invasion thousands have always dreaded, it couldn’t arrive in finer form.
