
’s fourth full-length was nothing if not that well-worn phrase ‘eagerly anticipated’; their last new material was released in 2001, with just the rarities compilation ‘Inches’ to fill in the gap back in 2004. ‘Let’s Stay Friends’ is proof that a break is sometimes what’s needed - the New Yorkers returned with a brilliant record, if a bit of a grower.
If it’s comparisons you’re after, then how about Talking Heads (the bands reportedly attended the same art school), Pixies and Grandaddy to name just three. If it’s the kind of X factor which wouldn’t get as far as the TV show of the same name that you’re longing for, bearded frontman Tim Harrington regularly strips to his underwear.
Back at its release, we deemed the record ‘likeable’. Scrap that, it’s loveable, but of course, if you like that sort of thing. And we do.
