There are no signs of Canada’s gold streak drying up as we’re presented with their latest talent Alex Calder. The Edmonton man drummed for Makeout Videotape with the one and only Mac DeMarco. After the group disbanded he moved back to his mum’s house to hone in his solo craft. It’s a decision which looks to have paid off.

The latest Captured Tracks signee’s first single ‘Suki and Me’ is a concoction of hazy twangs and sluggish vocals that quickly cloud over you like a blanket of noise-pop. It would be wrong to describe Alex Calder’s music as lazy or ‘slacker’, despite its deceiving appearances - it’s expertly crafted and fluid, featuring memorable choruses which must’ve taken days to muster. Granted there are musical similarities that’ll lead to obvious comparisons to the great DeMarco, but Alex Calder is on his way to becoming just as entertaining and exciting.
