It can be very hard for young upstarts in bands to succeed; there can so many complications in a member’s life as well as musical differences between a group, so it is no surprise that musicians are often involved in numerous bands before they find ‘the one’. Tom Crandles was a former member of the Sydney based group COLOURS along with Sasha Carlson, who is now the frontman of Splashh. Tim Jenkins was a member of the now broken up Sydney band Parades. The duo, who met by chance at school, are now recording under the name Au.Ra and they have achieved magnificent results from their bedroom jams, suggesting this is a band that is going to fledge some serious results.

Au.Ra’s only song online ‘Sun’ (as premiered on 3rd December’s Neu Bulletin) shimmers in tropical harmonies and ambient bliss. The track is reminiscent of the beachy feel lent to Jaws’ ‘Toucan Surf’ single earlier this year, but this cut possesses even dreamier guitars, all crystallised and loose in shape. Several listens in and a gloomier mood emerges to the group’s sound; a harmonious mixture of escapist rock and melancholic dreampop.
