Axxa/Abraxas is the project of one Ben Asbury from Asheville, North Carolina, as well as the latest signing to Brooklyn’s finest Captured Tracks. Having released a couple of currently out-of-print cassettes - currently unavailable online - on his own RTA Art Collective label Axxa/Abraxas’ self-titled debut LP is due out next year.
While expectations are high for anyone joining the ranks of the recently five years-old Captured Tracks, Asbury is sure to fit right in. Recruiting Woods’ Jarvis Taveniere to record and produce, Asbury sounds more or less like a combination of Woods and Wild Nothing, all catchy pop tunes filtered through a lo-fi folk lens, a distillation of the past few years of Brooklyn indie folk.
Lead single ’I Almost Fell’, the first and so far only track to be released from ’Axxa/Abraxas’ finds Ben Asbury channeling his inner Tom Petty in a glorious mess of Americana and indie pop. Check it out below and stay tuned for more from Asheville’s finest.
Axxa/Abraxas’ S/T LP is released on 4th March via Captured Tracks.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
