Body Language

Neu Body Language

Sharp synths and a sense of fun.

“Steadfast optimism” is a self-description that sums Body Language’s music up nicely. They share much in common with fellow Brooklyn-heads Passion Pit; sharp synths and a sense of fun being the two most notable parallels. “We have a shit load of fun playing live and we do everything we can to emit this exuberance,” say the band, who are on the brink of releasing their first 7” with Double Denim records. “It’s all in the hope that the audience reciprocates that same happiness - it’s quite rewarding when it works out.”

It’s easy to imagine the audience buzzing on the back of watching Body Language play. Their songs are driven and pulsing - demanding movement. On the live circuit is where you’d expect the group to pick up their plaudits. The band describe Brooklyn as “fractured”, but having “a lot of little music ecosystems”. It’s here that they met the likes of Theophilus London (they’ve played with him as his backing band, The Lovers, on occasion) and Passion Pit, managing to collaborate with both. They admit that; “You can spend months and months in the studio working by yourself, and then spend two days with a different artist and have more epiphanies in a couple days than all those months flying solo.”

The 7” release consists of ‘You Can’ and ‘Social Studies’, two mindblowingly catchy efforts, rinsed in glossy synthetics. The latter is a glorious, evolving pop song, one so senseless and sunny that you can’t help but fall for its charms. And that’s exactly how Body Language will go places – by being impossible to reject.
