
Cashier No.9 are Bella Union’s latest Belfast five-piece. They’re due to release their forthcoming Goldstar EP on 2nd May 2011, produced by David Holmes. We caught up with frontman Danny for a quickfire question round.

Where are you from?
Belfast.
Where are you based now?
Belfast.
What part do you play in the group?
Write the songs and play a little bit of everything.
Where did you meet?
We all met through playing in different bands in Belfast.
Are you working on an album?
We’ve just finished an album called ‘To The Death Of Fun’ produced by David Holmes. It should be going out on Bella Union late June.
Best gig you’ve ever seen?
Led Zeppelin at the 02 or Papa M in Belfast.
Favourite European city?
Paris
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
Dismantling an ice rink with a pick axe.
Have you read the Radiohead paper?
Negative.
What new music should we be listening to?
Robyn G Shiels.
Who was your first musical idol?
Robyn G Shiels.
What was the first music you ever purchased and what format was it in?
‘Appetite For Destruction’ on cassette from Nutts Corner. Axl didn’t see a penny of it
What’s your favourite time of day?
Dawn.
Tell me about your new EP?
The EP is a few tracks taken from the album plus a lovely remix from Keyboard Choir.
What’s the best track you’ve ever written?
I’m really fond of ‘Goodbye Friend’. Its always fun to play live.
Who does what when you’re working on new songs?
Generally I write everything, though James has a beautiful track on the album called ‘Good Human’.
What’s the best thing about Belfast?
Everything. As Bill Drummond said, ‘Belfast, twinned with your wildest dreams.’
How would you like people to listen to your music?
With a smile on their face.
