DIY Presents Community 2015: Everything you need to know about Clean Cut Kid, Miamigo, April Towers and NGOD

Tonight’s DIY Presents takes over London’s Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen.

New music fever and 2016 hullabaloo truly kickstarts this week. BBC Sound Of chatter is in full flow. Labels big and small are working out which acts could take the next twelve months by storm. It’s all happening.

No better time, then, for new multi-venue festival Community to arrive in the capital. This week sees East London taken over by new bands, fresh faces ready to make their mark, starting here. Yes, it’s a scramble of A&Rs and major execs, but it’s also the perfect chance to see big names before they plot world domination.

DIY Presents gets involved tonight (4th November) with a showcase at London’s Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen. Headliners Clean Cut Kid are joined by Miamigo, April Towers and NGOD. If you’re curious, or even if you’re already an expert on all four acts and need reminding, here’s a guide to those playing.

Clean Cut Kid

Mid-summer was the perfect point for Clean Cut Kid to take their first step. Debut single ‘Vitamin C’ premiered on DIY, and since then the Liverpool four-piece have added dynamic shades to their glittering, all-optimism pop.

Listen: ‘Vitamin C’ remains the standard-bearer, a sugar dose of Haim-nodding enthusiasm.

Most likely to: Merge dodgy haircuts with hit-after-hit.

Miamigo

Take what you will from Miamigo’s name. It’s either pronounce ‘Mi Amigo’, or ‘Miami Go’, depending on how many mates you have and whether you fancy a trip to the States. There’s a jet-setting edge to their barmy synth pop, and don’t rule up the Brighton group racking up the air miles in their bid to trade shiny hooks for giant festival slots. It’s waiting to happen.

Listen: ‘What I Want’ premiered on DIY last month.

Most likely to: Be a radio mainstay in 2016.

April Towers

The ‘80s have had their way with April Towers, embedding glossy Depeche Mode-style delivery into their very fabric from the get-go. New single ‘Modern Psyche’ is disco with a sad edge, the kind that’d take over clubs if every punter wept in the corner instead of getting another round.

Listen: ‘A Little Bit of Fear’ is a little bit of good.

Most likely to: Join CHVRCHES in the synth revolution.

NGOD

No, they’re not partly named after a former, failed Liverpool striker. NGOD are actually high in the ranks of new bands merging showy ‘80s pop with hard-as-nails hooks. Hailing from Bradford, new single ‘Are You Satisfied?’ is their most confrontative, confident cut to date. A heady dose of 1975-nodding lunacy, it marks these five out as exciting openers.

Listen: ‘Are You Satisfied?’

Most likely to: Put the ‘rad’ in Bradford.
