The Midlands hasn’t been shy of late. We’ve had the rapid ascension of Birmingham’s beachy grunge types Jaws, 90s Britpop inspired immediacy from Superfood and tropical beats courtesy of Troumaca; the latest addition comes in the form of enchanting, dual-vocal, pop-tinged indie from Leamington Spa’s Cowboy.

After trying endless combinations of ‘Cowboy’, ‘Cowboy band’, ’Cowboy Leamington Spa’, they tended to retrieve only details of fancy dress shops and line dancing classes. Eventually, three Soundcloud tracks were unearthed. Three atmospheric, charming, spine-tinglingly good tracks at that.

Cowboy have seemingly created a grounded and identifiable sound; twinkly sparse intros, intricate, emotion-laden vocals and building crescendos which spill into rolling percussion outros. ‘Beech’’s affecting vocal tones sound like a cross between The Maccabees’ Orlando Weeks and Dry The River’s Peter Liddle whilst ‘Hacienda’’s hollow, ominous ‘whoo’s’ and distant clacking beats and knocks lend themselves to the likes of Wild Beasts.

It seems the band might be outgrowing their tiny home town. Destined for huge things, keep an eye on these Cowboys.
