Ways for a new band to catch some unsuspecting sort’s attention: 1) lip implants; 2) ridiculously patterned vintage shirts; 3) a music video, consisting of various close-ups of ladies’ legs/skirts/other things we ought not to be staring at, followed by an extreme slow-motion sequence, where a killer whale leaps out of the great vast ocean to catch its unfortunate seal pray. Are the two linked? It’s difficult to say. Regardless, Creatures of Love, who just so happen to make some interesting music (this is also prone to helping a new band’s case), put the two together and our early morning slumber was lifted within a millisecond. Suddenly, we were very much interested in what this lot were all about.
Fronted by a bold, striking vocalist who goes by the name of Bonita, she characteristically sways to and fro from a theatrical style to one that will simply blow you away. The rest of the group’s sound, certainly in the case of recent single ‘Barbatos’, is of an equally grand stature. Sleek, icy synthetics cannon of the walls, as skittering drum-machine beats etch their way into the backdrop. Much like the video, it’s a disorientating experience, one that’s likely to leave the listener confused and gasping for air at the very least.
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
