Stunning artwork can only get you so far, but I have to admit the first time I went over to Dead Times’ website I found myself caught up in a strange daze, staring at every meticulously designed image that graces their front-page. By the time that was all finished, I’d probably listened to most recent song ‘Slow Burning Bliss’ three times. Image and song went hand in hand; one piece of beauty standing right up against the other. I was transfixed.

Calvin Markus and Travis Bunn are the two Los Angeles producers putting beauty at the forefront of their punchy electronic soundscapes. We say electronic, although the instruments are largely organic - percussion and piano being the dominating elements of ‘Slow Burning Bliss’. But one turn into an unknown direction and it could easily end up as a house track, and every inch of it is strangely reminiscent of the punchy escapism of something on Caribou’s ‘Andorra’ record, or a less consumable work by Bonobo. Needless to say, it’s a wonderful introduction.
