What’s the best way of finding out lots and lots about a new(ish) artist in quite a short period of time? Just ask them lots of questions really quickly.

We put our quickfire Q&A to Joe Walsh, who plays guitars with Sam Walsh, Philippa Bloomfield and Ben Goodwin in Dignan Porch. The band are currently gearing up for the release of their new EP through Captured Tracks in March, and a handful of UK live dates in the lead up.

Why did you, personally, join the band?
I put the band together, I started it.

Where did you all meet?
At school, through friends and Sam and I (Joe) are brothers 

What’s the best thing about being a band in London?
I guess you have more options for places to play / record. If that’s necessarily a good thing I don’t know.

What has been your favourite moment as a band?
Our last gig with Weekend at the Brixton Windmill was really great, felt like we really connected. Plus when we received boxes of full our LP, felt pretty nice.

When you first started to get into music, who was your favourite musician?
The first band I ever got into was Guns N Roses when I was about 10.

Name one album that would appear in your Top Five of all time.
In an Aeroplane over the sea is a pretty perfect record.

If you had to learn a new instrument, what would you choose?
I can already play drums a little bit, but to be a completely insane drummer like Dale Crover would be a dream.

What’s your favourite ‘being in a band’ perk?
The fact that we have music released.

Where would you most like to be right now?
The city of Atlantis.

What would your superpower be?
To pause time so I can steal things and touch people inappropriately.

What’s your most unappealing habit?
Peeing with my trousers and pants fully down to the floor.

Who would you most like to go on a huge world tour with?
I’d do a huge world tour of small venues with friends bands. 

Are there any parts of being in a band you’d leave out if you could?
The bit where you’re not famous.

Would you ever go solo?
No because it’s too embarrassing.

What was the last album / single you bought?
I got a copy of The Proper Ornaments 7inch on Make A Mess Records, great band.

What is your music-purchasing format of choice?
Vinyl or steal from mediafire, I like going record shopping.

What was the last music magazine you read?
I just read a bit of Mojo.

Trogons are pretty cool.

Where would you like to be this time next year?
On tour, exploring new places. 

What’s next on the cards for Dignan Porch?
UK and US tours and our EP out on Captured Tracks March 8th. Followed by our second album around July.
