News DIY Mix - Yoni Wolf, WHY?

Ahead of the band’s DIY-associated UK tour this week, WHY?’s Yoni Wolf has popped together a mixtape for us. There’s quite a story to go along with it, too, which you can read below, along with a more-or-less accurate tracklisting.

The three-date jaunt will kick off in Liverpool tomorrow (7th May), going on to visit Leeds and London too. Here are the details: Kazimier, Liverpool (7th May); Brudenell Social Club, Leeds (8th); Islington Assembly Hall, London (9th).

Tickets are on sale now.

‘Here’s how it went down: my buddy Northside Nick called me around 10pm and asked if I wanted to roll to a party with him. He said there would be a lot of ‘my kind of girls’ there. I knew what he meant, and I had been alone in the house all day, and it was Friday night, so I said what the hell. I had baked up a batch of kind-herb-infused banana pecan bread earlier that day, so I figured I’d eat a piece of that and go with the flow and maybe meet some people and have a good night out. It’s not often that I play the social butterfly.

‘When we got to the party, it was already winding down. The host was drunk, recognised me from the band and cornered me to tell drawn out stories about heirlooms in the house; not disinteresting stories, just meandering and loosely held together by a glue of cosmopolitans and maybe weed. He was very nice but Nick is a party connoisseur and this was not what he was looking for. We were out of there within half an hour.

‘Next thing I knew, I was careening through old iTunes collections on old hard drives I hadn’t looked at in quite some time, picking out songs I wanted to hear. I popped open Protools and started throwing the tunes around. I think the pecan bread came on pretty strong because next thing I knew it was 5 in the morning and I had this mix. I hope you like it. I do.

‘I’m not going to be able to remember all the song titles but I will do my best and will definitely name all the artists in order to the best of my abilities. I hope I don’t forget anything.’
