Because most of us are, let’s face it, complete bigots who play up to national stereotypes, we might expect the French to produce some hard-hitting house music (some of which you’ll find on DIY Radio show French Toast). That, or we’ll be exposed to a Brigitte Bardot lookalike parading around some European streets to a cheerful little song, all in aid of a fragrance advert. But not this.
Paris’ Du Nord play against the above stereotype. Their sound is fit for resting your head on the grass, with few cares for the outside world, Real Estate-style. One of their only tracks to date, ‘The Sunset’ is unequivocally similar to RE’s most recent record, ‘Days’; combinations of jangly guitar pop joining parts like a daisy chain, to form a relaxing ode to the summertime.
