Echopark is the project of Antonio Elia Forte, a London based musician originating from Lecce. Despite his project’s music owing a lot to his warm homeland, a debut album in the form of ‘Trees’ was mostly recorded in a tiny room in Whitechapel. You can imagine these exciting pop songs taking shape in Forte’s little space, transforming a dingy environment into a vibrant haven of escapism.
The artwork for ‘Trees’ is a mosaic of tiny segments of colour that combine to create an unusual and striking image; it is the perfect visual equivalent of Echopark’s music. Layers of vocals and electronics get pieced together to create emotionally rich songs that become astonishing in an instant. These moments are neverending, like on ‘Mountains’ when bubbling synths and looped vocals collide to form a gripping, addictive chorus.
In a tight crowd of similarly-minded works it takes something truly special to stand out. ‘Trees’ towers above the rest with the sheer scope of its recordings, transporting you to someplace beyond this mere planet. Now we’re all craving a piece of Forte’s “California of Italy” for ourselves.
