There’s a short, albeit significant history to Faux Fur. Tied into a tight family of guitar experimentalists, there’s links to Women and close friendships with Each Other - all three bands sound gloriously alike, each providing extensions of one another’s masterfully-arranged, extravagant guitar pop.
Jon Hillcock’s most recent New Noise podcast informs us that one member, Andrew Flagel, is the younger brother of Matthew and Patrick Flagel of Women. Quite tragically, former member of Women, the recently deceased Chris Reimer, even recommended Faux Fur their drummer, Andy Flegel.
Faux Fur’s music feels like the last living spec of a project that exploded into tatters far too soon. As Women remain a band of cult legend, with two albums to their name, both of potential longevity, elements of their sound live on, unharmed and fresh-faced. Frontman Jean-Sebastian Audet is just 16 years old, and moves from project to project. But you can imagine Faux Fur being a band capable of producing some truly crucial albums in the future, so long as they maintain their shape and their desire.
