In 2012, everywhere you turned you’d find someone losing their mind over the debut album from TRUST, a Canada duo whose first work ‘TRST’ seemed to exist in a time vacuum. Half of it sounded like an ’80s disco spilling its guts, but the other half was future defined, some kind of wild dystopia with floating cars and glitterballs decorating the sky. It was entirely owing to synth-pop’s elder statesmen, but its dark outer edge was something to rejoice in for the present day.

Feathers - a four-piece from sunny Austin - paint their songs in similarly tar-like shades. Debut album ‘If All Now Here’ doesn’t rest in allowing simple pop hooks to sit in the palm of an evil empress. It’s this perfect balance of ’80s homage and modern day sin that elevates their tracks from mere dark pop shoe-ins to something gloriously of its own making. People will latch onto this kind of sound. They’ll want a taste of the dark core, a sip of the sinister.
