A Fever Dream is specified as ‘a particularly intense or confusing dream brought on by a fever’. A suitable moniker then, for this East London shoegaze trio whose sound lends itself nicely to all things ‘intense’ and ‘confusing’.
Fever Dream have already gained a good chunk of respect from playing with the likes of acid punk pioneers Bo Ningen - and despite not releasing an original track in over a year, they’re bound to be packing some more belters up their sleeves.
Taking inspiration from the noisy 90s, ie: Sonic Youth, Pavement and My Bloody Valentine - elements of which can be found amongst their first EP – they create intriguingly varied tracks. They range from gushing dream-pop melancholia on ‘This Waste’ to scuzzy, guitar and skewed rhythms on ‘Poyekhali!’ and messy, snarly post-punk on ‘Suspense’ – think Ride meets Fidlar.
Topped off with sweet, boy-girl harmonies and lashings of menacing instrumentation, they seem to be channelling the whole calm-meets-chaos trick to great effect.
With Bob Vylan, St Vincent, girl in red, Lizzy McAlpine and more.
