As introductions go, few will come any better than Spirit Sisters’ recent entering into the fray.
As introductions go, few will come any better than Spirit Sisters’ recent entering into the fray. To let listeners understand what the music is about, what its intentions are, your first tracks are crucial in showing depth, ability, a concept…Anything else and they’ll flutter by unnoticed or they’ll cynically get picked up for a day or so before being firmly flung out from all living memory.
And so ‘He’ and ‘She’ were the two introductory efforts brought out by an artist who, to date, gives few details on their identity, location, etc. ‘She’ came first, sporting a glossy, underwater feel and deftly-applied drum patterns. ‘He’ soon joined arms, matching its sister’s string section with a sweet, simply piano line. The vocals were more distinct, however – the overall sound more forceful. The songs match their respective titles: ‘He’ is more brutish, sporting its masculinity; ‘She’ chooses to be more gentle, more of a symbol of beauty.
But both pieces represent a side we’d like to get to know more of. Both represent a differing, solid base from which to build on. And build they shall.
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
