With a name like Grave Babies, you’d be correct in anticipating some choice, challenging elements within this band’s music. With deft intensity, they combine gothic post-punk with driving energy levels rarely heard across this genre. There’s a strange male choir-esque sound to the vocals which adds a distinctly cultish feel on the backdrop of their strange and abrasive songs. It’s intentionally uncomfortable and abrasive. But often that’s the source of something special.
Around Seattle, Grave Babies have a reputation for excruciatingly loud live shows, and their recordings also display that same “everything up to 10” style - suffice to say, they’re no shrinking violets. And so this begs the question; is the world ready for Grave Babies? They’re certainly ready for us. Off with our heads.
