Over the past year Bournemouth has been a breeding ground for DIY bands. Bos Angeles (now disbanded), YOOFS and VLAD have all been met with huge interest and anticipation. Now we have some new boys from Poole a stone’s throw away from Bournemouth to worship.

Whilst fellow Bournemouth based peers are ringing out lo-fi fuzzy noise, Hazey and the J’s are adding their own psychedelic twist to this sound. These guys have been worshipping Animal Collective for the past few years - or at least that’s the impression we’re getting.

The music they are creating imitates the feeling you get spinning on a roundabout in a playground, the dizzy heights you reach and the giddying sensation as you collapse to the ground. Shining with blissful beginnings their tracks swerve with woozy guitars into ambitious mind benders. ‘It’s Fantasy Man’ has a smouldering assault of melodic “oohs” and “ahhs”, whilst ‘Any Joy’ is Antlers-esque in its atmospheric poignancy. Don’t let Hazey and the J’s spin away into space like their tracks; keep them where they rightly should be, sharply in your focus.
