The mind can only expand and contract so much when attempting to describe the sounds gracing this Parisian producer’s work. Sebastien Forrester, hailing from the “suburbs” of his city, has all the credentials worthy of claiming the “up and coming producer” tag that’s been practically stapled to his forehead. Cassette and 7” releases on the influential Not Not Fun label, a split single with Beko DSL are two of a number of achievements claimed throughout the past two years. And there’s true talent behind the noteworthy feats, for this is an electronic producer unlike any other.

Few out there will mix a church organ with multiple, frenetic percussive parts and a pitch-shifted vocal segments; both choral and rooted deeply underground. ‘Christabell B’ is like Tim Hecker trading secrets with Kuedo; swapping intensity for danceability and ending up with something in between. Scheming sibling ‘Christabell A’ (stream below) - both joining together to form part of a single on Morning Ritual this month - is the sound of Balam Acab banging his head against the walls of sanity. Truly outstanding, truly affecting work of few contemporaries.

The ‘Christabell’ single is released on 13th August through Morning Ritual Recordings, on a transparent 7” print of 500.
