Who’d have thought Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk would be the epicentre of a DIY goldmine? Three-piece Horse Party are the ones leading the flippin’ loud racket, and their debut album ‘Cover Your Eyes’ is the embodiment of musicians past and present that make our favourite underground bands tick. Melodic and heavy yet refreshingly off-kilter, Horse Party are at once in the 90s yet are without a doubt in the now, always shredding and never slowing down.

Lead single ‘Inbetween’ is the best example - at once championing 90s college rock as well as flirting with Fugazi-esque hardcore, it’s a three-minute summary of what Horse Party do best, and it’s a terrifically loud statement that’ll without a doubt wake up all the middle-aged busybodies of Bury St. Edmonds while also capturing the attention of all its misled youth.

The rest of the record meanders between melodic moments of Fleetwood Mac juxtaposed with the raw, visceral moments of Blood Red Shoes. Horse Party may wear their influences on their sleeve, but they’re ingraining the frustrations of modern day Britain within them, and ‘Cover Your Eyes’ is a record that ironically, you can’t look away from.

Their punk rock ethic doesn’t end there though - attendees of their gigs will be able to pick up a copy of their aptly titled, riot-grrrl inspired zine ‘Shut The Fuck Up’, and the band actively back other Suffolk musicians through their label Sturm Und Drang Recordings. They even put on a club night called Washing Machine, too. Suffolk, eh? Who’d have thought it.
