Soundtrack In the driver’s seat : Film Soundtracks Re-scored
Zane Lowe and Radio 1 are re-scoring the ‘Drive’ soundtrack with lots of famous musicians in tow. DIY has responded by taking on some other classics.
These days curating things is all the rage. Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins is currently curating a teashop, of all things. Lorde just finished curating the soundtrack for ‘The Hunger Games : Mockingjay Part 1’, and meanwhile, almost every musician around has had a go at curating a personal playlist or mixtape.
Not to be outdone or left behind on the curation front, Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe took a little time out from coming up with his next ‘Hottest Record In The World’ to re-score the ‘Drive’ soundtrack, originally scored by Cliff Martinez. The newly soundtracked version of the film is going to be shown on BBC Three on October 30th at 10pm.
A few people have got a little bit uppity about Zane Lowe’s new soundtrack, which contains contributions from the likes of Chvrches, Bastille, BANKS, SBTRKT, and weirdly, Eric Prydz. It’s possibly because anything that might desecrate the ground that Ryan Gosling walks on is considered a very dangerous game indeed. Having soundtrack commonly regarded as classic probably comes into it, too.
The untouchable reputation of ‘Drive’ aside, Zane Lowe’s actually onto something rather fun. In similar spirit, DIY has done a bit of its own curation, and re-scored the soundtracks for some other classics.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
