Premiere J£zus Million debuts new video for ‘Taught to Run’

Plus read an update with the fast-rising producer.

On his new ‘Error’ EP, Boston producer Joseph Zucco takes several steps forward. Previous J£zus Million material benefited from guest spots, hype-gaining additions to already colourful electronic tracks. But there’s more clarity on this release - a sense of wild ideas being pulled together into some kind of visible formation.

Out on UK label The Full Hundred, the new EP contains ‘Taught to Run’, Zucco’s most severe turn to date. Like a cross between TNGHT’s frenzied force and the sample-heavy turns of Forest Swords, it’s a bonkers collision of sounds, combining wind pipes and harsh beats.

DIY is premiering a new video for ‘Taught to Run’ below, adding abstract visual bursts to an already violent track.

Below, we catch up with Zucco to find out where ‘Error’ stemmed from and where he’s heading next.

When did the three tracks on ‘Error’ come together? Do you have further material from the same sessions?
They came together in a couple of months. I have a lot more tracks from the same session, some of them half finished. I’ll most likely change them all up over time.

On ‘Cold Shoulder’, you collaborated with lots of artists but on ‘Error’ you choose to go it alone - what’s the thinking behind that?
I wanted to see if my beats could stand on their own. I didn’t really think any artist could sing on these new tracks as they weren’t made for vocalists but I would love to collaborate with another artist, definitely. I’m currently working on something that’s closer to a group project and that’s been fun, figuring out each other’s creative process and group dynamics.

How do you think your production’s developed over the last couple of years?
I think my attention to detail has improved quite a bit and my sound has gradually changed. Not quite where I want it just yet, but almost. I’m getting better I think at song structure and allowing myself to strip down a mix rather than trying to cram a million different sounds into it at once.

What’s next for you? Are you thinking about a full-length yet, or maybe another mixtape?
I’m currently working on a lot of instrumentals and planning another EP. Perhaps another with a new project. I can’t reveal anything just yet other than that it’s not a solo project… I’ve been working with a few other guys.
