News Makthaverskan

Making a bold return following their 2009 debut, Gothenburg’s Makthaverskan should be absolutely huge.

Name

: Makthaverskan
Based: Gothenburg, Sweden
Listen: ‘Asleep
Similar to: Beach Fossils, Fear Of Men

Gothenburg’s Makthaverskan isn’t exactly a new band – they released their self-titled debut LP back in 2009 on Gothenburg label Luxury – but they’re yet to achieve proper recognition outside of their native Sweden. At the time the members of the band; Maja Milner, Irma Krook, Andreas Wettmark, Gustav Andersson and Hugo Randulv, were all between 16 and 18 years old.

Despite the fact that the record was very well received in Sweden the band went on hiatus after touring behind it. Vocalist Maja Milner moved to Berlin, where she has teamed up with Pistol Disco’s Alexander Palmestål for the recently profiled electronic duo Iberia, and now – four years later – Makthaverskan are finally back with a new record on March 6. Appropriately titled ‘Makthaverskan II’ and it’s a growth in almost every way, with the band sounding better than ever and Milner’s characteristic vocals being especially impressive.

The first single from ‘Makthaverskan II’, ‘Asleep’, is one of those escapist pop songs that immediately takes hold of you and turns you into an obsessive fan. Complete with a brilliantly catchy bass line, angst-filled lyrics and a great vocal from Milner it’s just one of those songs that should be absolutely huge and if there’s any justice Makthaverskan should be making waves far outside of Sweden this time.
