Neu Mix #19: AKIINE

The first time AKIINE made an impression on DIY/ Neu, they were barefooted, bouncing off a stage somewhere in East London.

Songs about blueberry mountains sound too cutesy to process on paper. ‘Which happy so-and-so is responsible for this?’ is the immediate reaction. But then it sets in. The London duo aren’t trying to fool anybody. Their sense of joy might be jealousy-inducing, but if one thing’s for certain it’s the real thing. 

Trust the pair to name their mix ‘Spacejams & Lullabies’. It sounds like some kind of Michael Jordan-featuring twee cult movie. It’s not. It’s just the name of a collection of songs AKIINE have put together especially for DIY Weekly. Pinback bring back the memories, while new R&B name Ang Low and the enviable Main Attrakionz also feature. There isn’t a sore sweet tooth in sight.
