News Mix #23: Casimer & Casimir
Chicago pair keep it in the family - and it’s not like the time Mystery Jets’ dad insisted on going on tour with the band.
Uncle and nephew musical duos don’t exactly come in spades these days. Casimer & Casimir (that’s Casimer Pascal & Vincent Joseph Casimir Caruso at the family dinner, by the way) are a different case. Their Beach Boys-channelling cheery pop has a spring in its step, best showcased in ‘O Sweet Joe Pye’, which sounds like Jim Noir joining Brian Wilson for a game of croquet. Their music is old-fashioned and gentlemanly, practically waving at any stranger that doesn’t look like they’ll throw a punch in return.
Shimmying away to its own beat, Casimer and Vincent Joseph have also put together an exclusive mix for DIY. Beginning with their very own ‘Incidentals’, it takes a waltzing dance through contemporary psych and some old fashioned Latin-pop. Like nephew, like uncle (that doesn’t have such a ring to it, does it?), they’re ready to take on 2014 with a release on Brille Records. ‘O Sweet Joe Pye’ is out now.
