Exclusive Mix #32: Boxed In

Oli Bayston’s put together a patchwork of sounds around his debut album.

Oli Bayston’s Boxed In project likes to shun its actual name - attempts to pigeonhole fall flat. Formed in 2010 and working towards a debut album out later this year, it’s a project that fuses mini-ideas and fragments of sound like there’s no tomorrow. Settle on one given idea and it’s back to the drawing board for more.

It’s documented in a new exclusive mix put together for DIY. Bayston picks out “key tracks” which have an impact on the Boxed In sound. “I’ve chosen some of my favourite house and techno tracks, both old and recent, and on a couple of occasions included the songs from which key samples were taken.

“I’ve chosen to keep the tracks non-merged and, for the most part, in their entirety, as homage to their production,” he says.
