New York electro trio Neonfaith describe themselves on their facebook page as simply: “Just a few kids in Jamaica, Queens making music in the bedroom.” This is all that is known so far about a group that is shrouded in mystery and intrigue. The lack of information is fitting though as they deal in enticing and alluring electro pop that fuels a growing sense of mystique.

The trio are known only as Ley, Fef and singer Megan Faye. According to their listed influences, they cite A Tribe Called Quest, Patsy Cline and Daft Punk. These are, indeed, apposite references for a beguiling electronic sound that straddles intriguingly between gauzy retro nostalgia and a fascinatingly progressive electronic sound. ‘Mercury’ is a mix of fractured beats, woozy keyboards and strange sounds that is wickedly portentous. Neonfaith primarily make music with a dark heart. It is the sinister quality of the sparse, air-locked beats coupled with the Lana Del Rey style dramatic vocals of Faye delivering lyrics like, “Drown you in my darkness” that make this music so compelling.

In time, there is no doubt that we will find out much more about Neonfaith, an EP is expected before the end of the year. For now though, the small collection of music available is to be savoured.
