What with a certain Claire Boucher having spread her future-pop wings from this very city, all things Vancouver - and as a matter of fact, all things Canada - are currently in vogue. Pigs with lipstick at the ready; tastemakers will be bowled over senseless by any old dud, so long as you tell them it hails from Canada. But No Gold - self-damning by name they might be - are anything but a faulty pirate copy of the real deal.

The trio, with a self-titled 2011 debut already to their name, emerged from Vancouver’s “dance party scene”, where standard records were shunned in favour of impromptu outdoor summer parties. Thankfully this lot have settled down, aware of the merits of an aesthetically pleasing bandcamp page. The turn of the year saw the release of ‘Good And Bad’; a strangely haunting electronic piece, with pessimism at the very heart of the song’s message. It’s the sound of Hot Chip throwing all their gadget toys out of the pram and it’s brilliantly fresh-sounding for that very reason.

DIY’s been given the premiere to their new track, ‘Hollarp’. It begins with the sound of wild audience appreciation - perhaps recorded with a dictaphone at one of their summer parties? - before revisiting their melancholic side that so wonderfully laced ‘Good And Bad’. Dense and throbbing with synthetic wonder, pig with lipstick this most certainly isn’t.
