Very little is known about London soul singer Ofei, what is obvious though is that he is a man who deals with big themes and intense emotions. Each of the two songs featured on his intriguingly slick official website are mini epics in their own right. Two pieces of very personal and passionate soul music.

‘London’ is built on a lovely, almost classical piano figure, which allows Ofei’s remarkable voice to swell and soar over the top. Every individual syllable and vocal inflection packs a distinct punch. Ofei’s voice is very soulful but soulful in a beguilingly oblique way. The song seems to be righteous ode to his city that has changed and lost its lustre, “I want it back now” he pleads with a combination of longing and rage.

‘Fate’ is a more uplifting and euphoric piece. A song of devotion and redemption that sees Ofei overcome with ecstatic faith as the lyrics describe an ascension to another spectral plain, “Who cares where we go from here?” Ofei’s sound is fervent soul slightly skewed. Both of the songs available so far offer a stirring introduction to his mysterious talents.
