Having spent the last couple of years developing their craft, Popstrangers have amassed a passionate and loyal following in their native New Zealand. It’s been time well spent too, as each of the available tracks you’re likely to find online will testify. And indeed word about the critics’ choice at the 2011 New Zealand Music Award nominees has started to spread beyond their shores.
Popstrangers are a band looking to catch your ears and take them hostage, with erratic riffs, abrasive feedback and wonky effects lining the seams of their songs. But that’s all for nothing without a sense of composition to sit within, so be equally grateful for their more than competent alt-rock song writing ability. Their latest track ‘In Some Ways’ showcases a band with an evolving sound. It’s further evidence that they’re worth looking out for.
With such vast distances between our new antipodean friends and us you’d be forgiven for thinking your chances of seeing this band live are slim, however word has it Popstrangers will be paying a visit to the UK before the year is out.
