Chicago trio Psychic Twin - vocalist Erin Fein, multi-instrumentalist Brett Sanderson and drummer Jonny Sommer - play eighties indebted synth pop, and they do it very well. Prior to forming Psychic Twin, when writing and recording on her own, Fein felt as if she needed two versions of herself to make it all come together, but instead she found a musical partner in Sanderson and Psychic Twin came into being.

Last year they released their debut 7” for ‘Gonna Get Her’ on Lefse and in April they’ll follow it with the ‘Strangers’ 7” on Polyvinyl. The few tracks they’ve released so far are full of promise, romance and the kind of cinematic eighties fetish that made Chromatics’ ‘Kill For Love’ one of the very best albums of last year. ‘Strangers’ is their finest track to date; Fein providing a fluttering vocal performance over a mesmerizing beat. You’d do well to keep your eyes on Psychic Twin from now on, even if it’s just a means of re-enlivening some of your favourite existing sounds.
