News Pyreness

This is the work of a man who has spent much of his time at the disco.

We’re currently awash with little known-about bedroom producers, so why do we need another one? Well, that seems to be exactly the same question that London’s Jeremias Carroza seems to have been asking himself. Having had an album’s worth of tracks sitting on his hard drive for a year, it took a couple of friends pestering him for their reluctant release online.

If only he’d had a little more confidence in himself – then we wouldn’t have had to wait a whole year to get the glory of Pyrenees’ debut release. Entitled simply ‘EP’, it is in fact more of an album length release, taking in 11 tracks that slither and slide their way through a vast near 50 minute running time.
The influences are worn honestly on the sleeve – Italo might have had somewhat of a resurgence of late, but this is the work of a man who has spent much of his time at the disco – though it’s more likely that he spent his time watching the dancefloor, intrigued and alienated. There’s a jumpiness to every beat, a resistance to standing still, both nervous and distinctly forward gazing, shooting star synths weaving it all together in ways that it was honestly thought had been forgotten.

At once, Jermias makes records that make you want to move but give you a strange sense of alienation, and incredibly distant sense of warmth emanating from every piece. Still, the most incredible thing is that he didn’t even think these anachronistic miniature masterpieces would be worth listening to at all. We can only hope that his friends unearth another couple of hours of material hiding somewhere on his laptop – or, heaven forbid, that he actually crafts some beats that he actually wants people to hear.
