News Reading & Leeds 2011: Funeral Suits

Dublin trio Funeral Suits begin their weekend on the BBC Introducing stage at Leeds on Friday, and finish down in Reading on Sunday. The band release new single ‘Health’ on 26th September.

Is this your first Reading and Leeds?
Yes, this is our first Reading and Leeds.

Have you ever been as a fan?
No, I’ve never been as a fan. When I was younger and obsessed with Nirvana I used to love watching clips of their Reading show, so it’s exciting to be going there for the first time. We grew up in Ireland so we’d usually be going to Oxegen or Electric Picnic every summer. We were at Standon Calling a few weeks ago. That’s a really fun festival, it’s fancy dress and had such a love buzz going on.

Reading & Leeds is a ‘rock’ festival. What’s the least rock ‘n roll thing you’ve ever done?
We got the slow ferry between Wales and Ireland a few days ago. Anyone who’s been on it will know what it’s like to have walked amongst the living dead…

A few rainy festivals this year have seen artists going on stage in their wellies. Is this something you’d consider?
No I don’t think so. We might cover up a little but you have to brave the rain as much as you can. The people going to festivals have to stand out in that weather for a whole day, so a performer should be able to get through one set of it…

Who are you hoping to catch live at Reading and/or Leeds?
I’m looking forward to seeing Death From Above 1979 and Best Coast. We’re not playing the days that The Strokes are playing at either festival so we won’t get to see them. I’ve never seen them live but I’m sure there will be other chances.
