News River Bones

Based in Lyon, France, the producer first popped up on the radar with his bombastic effort ‘Bloom’.

There has to be a grudging respect for any man who manages to tame Beyoncé. So even if you’re not a big fan of Jay Z’s flow, you’ve got to at least acknowledge the ease with which he put on a ring on it. It’s highly unlikely that Luc Simone has ever even said hello to the songstress, never mind gone through nuptuals, but under the guise of River Bones, he manages to make Queen B dance to his own tune in his own peculiar way.

Based in Lyon, France, the producer first popped up on the radar with his bombastic effort ‘Bloom’ a couple of months back - a track that takes the ground rules of Witch house and utterly trounces them in favour of making a kind of apocalyptic party anthem, complete with lazer canon synths.

Latest effort ‘Summer Luv’ doesn’t quite offer such a bleak yet resplendent view of the world. Starting with the irrepressible ‘Crazy In Love’ as its raw materials, Luc crafts a track that feels more like an exotic tapestry that one of the most recognisable pop tracks of the 21st Century. Beyoncé’s vocals are pitch shifted, warped and skewed to make a quirky ode to longing. Though tagged as a remix, this is a world away from the world of adding in a synth track and altering the levels - this is the the sound of a track that has been completely shattered and reformed in a wonderfully different mould. You doubt whether Jay Z could do the same thing and get away with it - though we’d all prefer to have Miss Knowles on our arm, given the choice between the two. Small victories.
