The usual thing to say when describing a burgeoning music scene in some specific location would be, “there’s something in the water”, as if Birmingham’s Peace and Swim Deep are sipping on the same bottle of volcanic-sourced goodness. This time round, with an electronic scene beginning to truly make a name for itself in Ireland, I’d suggest there’s something in the gadgets. Perhaps something that turns every single track into a work of complete, unparalleled beauty.

Ask Jack Colleran of Mmoths, or Solar Bears, even, with their recent collaborative track with Keep Shelly In Athens impressing hugely. The third case in point comes in the form of Darragh Nolan, another producer, born in Ireland, using sweet guest vocals to elevate a wealth of gorgeous textures, all produced by those suspiciously effective gadgets. We’ve seen L.A. artist Steffaloo combining on all kinds of tracks in 2012 to date, but none are as slick, perfectly-applied as Nolan’s reinterpretation of her ‘On Fire’ effort.

Up to this potentially landmark moment, we’ve seen Nolan spinning a web of dense, often heartbreaking works of an emotionally-charged ilk. Songs like ‘Wired, Islands’ verge in the brink of total despair. To re-create such sensations through the use of pure electronics, as has been the case with ‘On Fire’, is somewhat staggering.
