There aren’t many cities in the world that give new musicians the freedom to shed their inhibitions and create whatever the hell they like. However, along with its coastal opposite Brooklyn, sunny LA is one such place.

Taken from his forthcoming LP ‘Age Waves’, lead single ‘Fire Doesn’t Burn Itself’ is a wealth of intriguing ideas that have been expertly rolled and welded together. The five and a half minute result is a culmination of gloriously exuberant 60s psychedelia and grunge tinged garage rock.

With such assurance from a debut album, the word ‘refreshing’ springs to mind: on first impressions Flax appears to be exactly that.
