Hotflush recordings latest signing Shelter Point are an electronic duo to get very excited over. Little is known about the duo of twenty year olds Robin and Liam, apart from that the both seem to be incredibly talented.
The debut Shelter Point EP ‘Forever For Now’ offers four examples of the sort of mesmerising electronica that immediately captures your attention. There is nothing obstructive or in your face about Shelter Point’s sound. Every note and beat is beautifully understated and carefully realised. ‘Braille’ is the lead track on the EP and it offers a perfect example of their distinct minimalism. There is an ambient hum to the slightly woozy synthesisers, which provides an effective backing to the dreamy melancholy of a plaintive and bruised vocal. A lot of electronica can be cold and arid yet there is a remarkable warmth and emotive quality to Shelter Point’s work.
The EP will be released in full on October 22nd but the snippets of tracks available so far indicate that there are many facets to the pair’s sound. Chopped and screwed vocal effects, submerged beats and wildly inventive warped pop feature heavily. There is one overriding common theme to all their tracks though and that is they all have a strong sense of soul and passion. Shelter Point make electronic soul music from a completely different astral plane.
