Sam Scott – aka Solid Gold Dragons – comes from a rich musical background. From disbanded cult band Youthmovies to being an integral part of tropical folk-pop group Jonquil, the Oxfordian trumpeter-come-soloist is making his own way under the new moniker of Solid Gold Dragons.

Showing similarities to the much-revered sounds of Fela Kuti and Arthur Russell, Scott’s musical output naturally differs from any ‘typical indie’ stereotype. If anything, his composed and confident style evokes a classic feel, and you have to remember, classic is something that never goes out of style.

Whether it’s playing trumpet, bass or being a front man, Scott’s Solid Gold Dragons is a project that is diverse and intriguing, and one that sounds like nothing else around. And so with that said, along with neighbours Trophy Wife recently calling it a day, perhaps this is the one that will carry the torch for Oxford’s continually fruitful musical outpour.
