When Supreme Cuts first emerged earlier on in the year, they missed out on: a) a First On feature; and b) a listen because their promo image was of a plastic doll, half robot, half R Kelly, hanging out by some waterfalls. In retrospect, to ignore the work of this sensational artist based on one dodgy promo image was a foolish and very shallow move. But we meet the Chicago producer once more, in more formidable form this time round.
On the brink of releasing an EP with Small Plates Records (the baby of two excellent music blogs, I Guess I’m Floating and Yvynyl, Supreme Cuts is at the stage in their blooming career where even b-sides stand out amongst the rest of the competition. ‘Jacy’ was the first song to catch our eye with its downcast vocal sample and deep, throbbing percussion – yet ‘Jacy’ doesn’t even make the cut on the forthcoming EP, ‘Trouble’. That tells you all you need to know about the talent bursting out of this guy: One A-side that made the release gives an incredible show of electronic experimentation, bubbling with joyous ambient sounds; all placed within a beautifully spacious surrounding.
