The Lost Levels

Neu The Lost Levels

They write songs as wonderfully poptastic as The Research, but their 8-bit NES-a-riffic keyboard riffs are, dare we say it, better than any we’ve heard before.

Who Are They?

Xavier (keyboards+vocals), Iain (guitars+vocals), Owen (bass), Steve (drums). They’re from Norfolk (but we don’t think they own a tractor, etc etc).

What do they sound like?
Imagine plugging proper, classic British pop into your old Gameboy and injecting it with the music from Super Mario Brothers. Then think of something even better; you’re about half way there.

Why is it so great?
The Lost Levels could well be the missing link in DIY’s record collection. They write songs as wonderfully poptastic as The Research, but their 8-bit NES-a-riffic keyboard riffs are, dare we say it, better than any we’ve heard before. It’s not a gimmick either, underneath there’s enough melody to sink the proverbial battleship.

What should I be checking out?
Get on the band’s Myspace (link below) and listen to ‘The Early Sheets’. It’s like an A-Z of ace pop, from the obvious to the less predictable (there’s even a break that reminds us of The Electric Soft Parade). Give it a few listens and you’ll not onlt be heralding the new saviours of pop; you’ll be trying to dig out that old Sega Master System too.
