New music guide The Neu Bulletin (10th December 2014)

DIY’s new music guide contains Alice Boman, St. Tropez and Pet Cemetery.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Alice Boman supports Ane Brun - London, Shepherd’s Bush Empire

Swedish songwriter Alice Boman is best seen in hushed settings, where there’s a church bench to lean on at the very least. It’ll be interesting, then, to find her in the grand arches of Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Supporting Ane Brun, a big 2015 awaits Boman.

THE BIG NEU THING:
St. Tropez - I Don’t Wanna Fall In Love

They live by a canal, they record garage punk in a former sauna for ‘naughty stuff’, and they’re approved by go-to hype magnet Tarek Musa from Spring King. It’s Musa that produces St. Tropez’s debut single ‘I Don’t Wanna Fall In Love’, a classically stepped first work that sits somewhere between The Black Lips’ ragged insanity and Public Access TV’s more measured slant on fizzing punk. Take note - this lot’ll be flying out of Amsterdam in no time.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Pet Cemetery

Few things take the life and joy out of things quite like a dead pet, so it’s no surprise to find new London project Pet Cemetery wallowing in emotions. It’s the work of Saam Watkins, best known for thrashing the drums and bursting his lungs with Playlounge. On tracks showcased so far, fleeting moments of frustration are coupled with lowercase titles, in a cruel bottling up of emotion that’ll only burst the banks eventually.
