News The Neu Bulletin (10th September 2012)

Neu’s daily new music & live music recommendations, curated by editor Jamie Milton.

Only reckless students and raging partyheads go out on Monday nights, isn’t that right? Nevertheless, Neu’s giving you a select choice of tonight’s gigs, as well as some new music recommendations for your daily fill.

WHO’S PLAYING WHERE? If you’ve never seen Karin Park (pictured, above) live, it’s an experience we’d recommend. Well, we say recommend: If you’re happy to have your soul ripped apart by the sheer intensity this performer brings to the stage, it’s something we’d recommend. Karin stands a good six feet tall, with some seriously bewitching stage moves to boot. It’s a unique, unforgettable live experience.

Karin Park plays the Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, London, tonight.

Alternatively, those who live by every word Grimes says might want to check out her Canadian counterparts, Majical Cloudz. Devon Welsh and Matthew Duffy feature on her ‘Nightmusic’ track and Claire Boucher’s been recommending them for yonks now. So see what all the fuss is about.

Majical Cloudz support Mi Ami at The Shacklewell Arms, London. Details here.

WHO’S MAKING WAVES?
Bastardgeist actually played the DIY-associated Brainlove Records Fest this summer just gone, and they’ve well and truly set the benchmark with their latest EP ‘Even Out’. Progressive, innovative pop, positively overflowing with off-kilter samples and new ideas. Listen to it in full over on their Bandcamp.

FURTHER NEU BUSINESS The excellent Astronauts Etc has unveiled his ‘Supermelodic Pulp’ EP in full on Soundcloud. It seems like only yesterday that we were sent into a frenzy by the ‘Mystery Colors’ track. Well, it was in fact only a month ago. But strangely this EP almost feels long-awaited, as if we’ve been waiting for Anthony Ferraro to show us the rest of what’s in his locker. It makes for an intriguing listen. Nothing quite hits the heights of the guy’s breakthrough track but all the same, expect to see this re-released on a big U.S. indie label very soon indeed. That’s not some insider hint, by the way, that’s just plain common sense.
