THE GIG
Fear of Men, Ides - Sebright Arms, London
An ATP Presents show, Fear of Men - despite their rising popularity Stateside - haven’t shunned us Brits entirely, and amid their ‘Early Fragments’ release they’re down for an intimate date before they head off for SXSW and other ventures. Alanna McArdle aka. Ides brings her startling, intimate songwriting as an excellent support.
THE SONG
Rips - Gone
Just when FIDLAR’s debut LP fills our void for nasty, rapid punk music, a new troupe comes along promising to fill our ears with rotten noise. Rips are a band from Brooklyn. This is their debut track. You can picture this being played in the sweatiest, stuffiest basement in the heart of summer, posers in the crowd adorning themselves with tank-tops and pouring water all over their silly faces. It’s going to happen.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Childsaint - Gutter Punks
Gutter punks by Childsaint
Chloe McGrath and Jane Azzopardi are a Perth duo spilling their guts out on recorded tape, snarling right up to the microphone and making grim, gritty words sound angelic. The drum-tape beat on ‘Gutter Punks’ is met with some swooning acoustic patterns and sweet, overlapping vocals. It’s beautiful, but it’s not the kind of song you’d share with a loved one. It’s dirty and harsh at its very core.
