New music guide The Neu Bulletin (12th December 2014)
DIY’s new music tips for the weekend, feat. Birdskulls, Pet Cemetery and Little Smoke.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE WEEKEND GIG:
Birdskulls, Pet Cemetery, Secret headliners - London, The Old Blue Last
This weekend, Art Is Hard Records hosts its end of year party at The Old Blue Last, commemorating the end of their Pizza Club scheme, which sent 5” CDs in the post to plucky fans, via pizza boxes. The show sees Goddam Dregs opening, with Saam Watkins’ (from Playlounge) new Pet Cemetery project, the almighty Birdskulls and some top secret (but take it from us, very good) secret headliners completing the bill.
THE BIG NEU THING:
Little Smoke - December Head
As the year settles down into a quiet, much needed slumber, there’s only one suitable soundtrack beyond Xmas playlists - lulling, woozy songwriting like that sported by Richmond band Little Smoke. On ‘Little December’, they welcome the changing of the seasons with their most gorgeous song to date, a demo that basks in its own rough edges and accepts that things could very well get better when the new year arrives.
