News The Neu Bulletin (12th February 2014)

Featuring Primitive Parts, Leeds’ Eat Medical and LA’s Run Things.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.

THE GIG
Primitive Parts (w/ Cheatahs) - London, Birthdays

Two brute forces combine, here, as London newcomers Primitive Parts (the emphasis is on the “parts”, they’re made up of Male Bonding and Sauna Youth members) link up with Cheatahs, who’ve just released a new album on Wichita. There’s plenty of ambling punk to nestle up against tonight, right from the very get go.

THE BIG NEU THING
Eat Medical - Turning You

A little rough around the edges it might be, but Leeds whizzkid Eat Medical’s debut track gives hints that it might be the start of something special. Either that, or it’ll be an emotional outpouring that keeps on going until some guy with a couple of quid pays enough attention to put the thing out on tape. Splintering riffs line the seams of ‘Turning You’, as the song reaches a not-too-chirpy conclusion (“I’m stuck in this place and I don’t know what to do”). It’s either concerning itself with serious issues or it’s recounting what it’s like to be addicted to Fifa and/or Flappy Bird.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Run Things
Dumb in the Sun by Run Things
If LA’s Run Things are aiming for the Hollywood Hills, they’re achieving this with a not-so-accidental detour to Lindsay Lohan’s house, a liquor pit stop that results in their eventual quest for stardom being drunken enough to knock the “H” off its perch on the famous landmark. There’s something very National-y about ‘Dumb in the Sun’, a track that glooms and glows all at once, somehow. Practically bathing in ‘all the wine’ etc., it’s a song that rejoices in booze-coated darkness.
