New music guide The Neu Bulletin (12th June 2014)

Neu’s batch of new music tips includes Oscar Key Sung and Ekkah.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.

THE GIG:
Oscar Key Sung - London, Notting Hill Arts Club

Oscar Key Sung formed part of last week’s DIY feature on the best new music coming out of Australia. A big part of the next gen of artists trying daring new things in the sphere of pop, tonight parks his UK live debut, with Nottingham producer Kirk Spencer in support.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Ekkah - Summer Mixtape

Ekkah are a band to get seriously excited about, especially in the coming season. The London via Birmingham group might not get their fair share of summer vibes on the London Euston train, but their music is steeped in tropicana. It’s a simple formula, bringing together the stunning ‘Figure It Out’ debut, plus three slick demos and a Patrice Nushan cover. As they so proudly declare, “heatwaves run through” their veins.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Tundra - Tiger

With the heavy-breathed debut ‘Alice’, West London’s Tundra essentially pounded their way into the spotlight. Less a creeping sensation, more a jolt to the system, their eerie synth pop continues 8 months later with the groove-filled ‘Tiger’. Part ‘Silent Shout’-era Knife, part Ben Khan bass wobbles, it’s the kind of follow-up a debut like ‘Alice’ fully deserved.
