New music guide The Neu Bulletin (12th May 2015)

DIY’s new music tips, featuring Ho99o9, Suck Puppet and Lightning Bug.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Ho99o9, Nah, Youth Man

London, Electrowerkz

Judging by the rep so far, L.A. group Ho99o9 have to be seen to be believed. Talk centred around the hardcore / hip-hop eye-gougers back in SXSW. They arrive in the UK for their first headline show in the country tonight, followed by an appearance at The Great Escape.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Suck Puppet

Connecticut’s Suck Puppet sound like White Lung on a murderous rampage. A bloodied and bruised mentality runs through new mini-album ‘Reptillian Dubstep’, fronted by Maple Brown’s unrelenting vocals, the kind that cut through any fuzz-drenched punk. Standout track ‘happy meal’ is the sound of two brutally distinct worlds meeting up, getting takeaway and spewing up the results.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Lightning Bug - Bobby

Every so often, Brighton label FatCat decides to share the best demos it’s received. The latest comes from New York band Lightning Bug, a group melding gorgeous, softly-sotftly vocals with a sweeping wall of shoegaze. They self-released a ‘Floaters’ LP earlier this week, a highlight being the glistening ‘Bobby’. Fans of Melody’s Echo Chamber should take note.
